The Grandmothers' Books

“My name is Red Spider Woman. I have a web to weave.
When the world gets lopsided, I have to weave it back, shape it back around in a circle.”

GRANDMOTHERS COUNSEL THE WORLD:
Women Elders Offer Their Vision for Our Planet

The book of our stories and visions — Grandmothers Counsel the World: Women Elders Offer Their Vision for Our Planet — was published in 2006.  Carol Schaefer interviewed each of us to record our histories and the visions that led us to form our alliance.  Carol wove our narratives together with background information on the forming of the Council, interviews from other Women Elders who joined us (Alice Walker, Gloria Steinem, Carol Moseley Braun, Tenzin Palmo, Helena Norberg-Hodge, Luisah Teish, Wilma Mankiller, and Her Holiness Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi) and chapters on the breakout sessions we offered at that gathering.

This book has now been translated into seven languages and goes before us throughout the world.

About mä creative inc. and the Grandmothers Wisdom project

Over the past seven years we, Marisol Villanueva and Angelina Nasso (mä creative inc.) have developed relations, assisted, and accompanied the Grandmothers to their public gatherings in different parts of the world, witnessing how the Grandmothers have touched the lives of so many through their prayers and teachings. We are inspired by the Grandmothers mission and the spirit that moves them to share their message with the world. Our project, GRANDMOTHERS WISDOM: Reverence For All Creation is a result of this blessed encounter with the Grandmothers and their communities.

Between September 2010 and December 2012 we will visit each of the thirteen Grandmothers communities for two to four weeks at a time. Through photographs, storytelling, artistic renderings (sketches and watercolors), video, and recorded dialogue, the GRANDMOTHERS WISDOM project will weave together and document each of the Grandmother’s living traditions, oral histories, ways of prayer and ceremonial practices that are specific to each Grandmother’s place on earth. The content of this project will be supervised by each of the Grandmothers, so that the character, beauty, and depth of their voices and teachings, will serve as a testimony to these wise custodians, their communities, and the richness of their lives.

GRANDMOTHERS WISDOM
is a multimedia project which consists of  a large-format book, a multilingual educational exhibition and website and, audio and video recordings. We are documenting and presenting the personal and intimate oral history of each of the Thirteen Grandmothers; how, as taught by their ancestors, they live and pray, work with plant medicines, and conduct ceremonies and rituals in their homes, on their lands and in their communities.

"To keep the Tibetan culture alive, we who still remember must teach our children and grandchildren,
or a whole beautiful culture with its own unique teachings will be lost to humanity."
